The Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation (OWLF), the 501(c)(3) sister organization to Oregon Women Lawyers, is proud to announce the 2014 Armonica Law Student Book Grant recipients. The OWLF focuses on educating and supporting women and minorities in order to further their access to and participation in the justice system and funds four grants including the Armonica Law Student Book Grant, the Vernellia R. Randall Bar Exam Grant, the Justice Betty Roberts Leadership Conference Grant, and the Janis Hardman Medical Support Grant. This year, the Foundation is thrilled to fund six Armonica Law Student Book Grants, and the awardees are as follows:
Jayme Mori from Willamette Law School, and Judge Nelson’s mentee, says that “The Armonica Book Grant will help me pay for a bar review course to prepare for the Oregon State Bar exam. Additionally, the grant will serve as a reminder and motivation to continually support women and minorities in the legal community. Thank you OWLS!”
Suleima Garcia from Lewis and Clark Law School, and Judge You’s mentee, notes that “The OWLF Armonica Grant has helped me cover the book costs for my classes this school year, including Wills, Trusts, and Estates, Constitutional Law II, Moot Court: Negotiations, and Contract Drafting. I feel very fortunate to have been selected for this grant and to have the opportunity to work with a group of strong leaders who are making a difference in our legal community.”
Keira Kell’a Loo from Willamette Law School, and Judge Wipper’s mentee, explains that “The Armonica Grant will help me purchase my last set of course textbooks for the Spring 2015 semester. Additionally, the grant will help to supplement the costs for bar review text books. Thank you very much to OWLF for making this opportunity possible.”
Nikki Pritchard from Lewis and Clark Law School, and Judge Albrecht’s mentee, shares that “This award provides generous support toward my school expenses and a priceless opportunity to connect with a distinguished member of the Portland legal community. I am very grateful to have been chosen as an award recipient.”
Beatrice Grace from the University of Oregon School of Law, and Judge Love’s mentee, said, “I am so grateful to the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation for awarding me the Armonica Grant. Not only does the grant help relieve the economic pressure I feel as a student and mother, it also serves as a reminder to aspire to be as respected, vital, and engaged with law, learning, and life as Ms. Gilford was. Thank you again.”
Jacqueline Leung from Willamette Law School, and Judge Ortega’s mentee, said, “The Armonica grant will enable me to cover the cost of text books for my last semester at WUCL and to pay for several bar prep books.”
The OWLF congratulates all of the grant recipients, and looks forward to welcoming Jayme, Suliema, Keira, Nikki, Beatrice, and Jacqueline to the legal community upon their bar admission to Oregon. We also thank our amazing judges who act as mentors to our awardees.
